What you should know about residential systems:

Your home’s HVAC system is like an ecosystem. A well-balanced ecosystem will function efficiently and last. Your HVAC system is no different. It has a lot of working parts that all come together to make an effective system.

What does a system need? Here are a few things that every system requires to operate properly and make it last:

• Properly Sized Ductwork: If a system doesn’t have properly sized ductwork, it will strain your system’s blower motor and compressor, which can lead to failure.
• Effective Air Filtration: If a system doesn’t have effective air filtration, it will cause your evaporator coil to plug up with debris, which will lead to air conditioning failure and, oftentimes, heating failure.
• Sufficient Refrigerant Charge: Your system needs to have a sufficient refrigerant level. Most systems come pre-charged from the factory for 15ft of lineset length. If your refrigerant lines are longer or shorter than that, the installing contractor may need to adjust the amount of refrigerant in the system. Also, if your system is leaking refrigerant, the system must be repaired or replaced to prevent a breakdown.
• Clean Coils: Your condensing unit (outside unit) must have a clean condenser coil. If your condenser coil is dirty, you will likely see a higher operating cost or a complete inability for the system to cool.
